In a Sept. 8 Facebook post, Rep. Paul Jacobs (R-Carbondale) shared his visit to the Woodlawn Cemetery in Woodlawn.
"It was an honor to present House Resolution 934 to the Stanford Family and Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens at a special ceremony celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the cemetery in Woodlawn today," Jacobs posted. "We enjoyed the music of the Woodlawn Grade School and High School choirs, special dedications from elected officials and great patriotism and gratitude for the service and sacrifice of the Veterans laid to rest there. The cemetery will participate in its 4th annual National Wreaths Across America Day this December. Thank you to former Mt. Vernon Mayor David Keen for helping organize such a wonderful event.”
In late August, Jacobs attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Pure Pet, a new business in Marion.
He has also recently spoken out against the SAFE-T Act and elimination of cash bail in Illinois. “Eliminating cash bail will make our communities less safe and put people in danger," Jacobs said. "Obviously, if you put more criminals back on the streets, you increase the likelihood of more crimes being committed, but the elimination of cash bail could have a chilling effect on potential arrests. Without cash bail, witnesses to crimes know the suspected criminals will be back on the street and they know their lives will be in danger and they (will be) less cooperative with law enforcement. No matter how you look at it, eliminating cash bail will lead to more violence in our communities."
Jacobs was first elected to the Illinois House in 2020. His legislative experience includes serving on the Tourism, and Higher Education committees. Jacobs resides in Pomona.
Jacobs is running unopposed in the November general election.
