Illinois State Senator Terri Bryant issued a public statement on July 27, 2025, addressing reports of a shooting in Mount Vernon that resulted in multiple injuries and two fatalities.
In her initial post, Bryant wrote: "My statement to reports of a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in Mount Vernon, leaving multiple individuals injured and two dead:" (July 27, 2025).
She went on to thank local law enforcement and emergency responders for their actions. “I want to thank the Mount Vernon Police Department, Illinois State Police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and all first responders and medical personnel who acted swiftly and professionally in a very difficult situation." (July 27, 2025).
Bryant also urged community cooperation with investigators. "I encourage anyone with information to assist law enforcement in their efforts to bring clarity and accountability to what occurred.” (July 27, 2025).
Terri Bryant serves as an Illinois State Senator representing the 58th District. The city of Mount Vernon is located in Jefferson County in southern Illinois.
