State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) is reminding students from first to fourth grade about the approaching deadline for the summer reading club. The forms need to be submitted by Friday, July 25, 2025.

“I’m thrilled to sponsor once again this year’s ‘Oceans of Possibilities’ Summer Reading Program. I look forward to this event every year. I love encouraging students to keep reading during their summer break and to give them some incentive to do so,” Severin said. “We will have a great time hosting a pool party for the students and their families who successfully participate in the program. I welcome all 1st through 4th graders in the 116th district to participate. The deadline is coming up soon, so get those forms in!”

The Oceans of Possibilities summer reading club encourages first through fourth graders to read eight books during their summer break. Books from local library programs are accepted, and those over 150 pages can count as two books.

After completing eight books, parents or guardians can verify completion by submitting a form either by mail to 805 N. Main Street, Benton, IL 62812 or online at RepSeverin.com/summer-reading. Inquiries about the program can be made via phone at (618) 440-5090 or email at [email protected].
