Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186 Board of Education met March 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Board of Education was called to order by President Rick Runge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 in the Board Room at McElvain School, 593 Ava Road, Murphysboro, Illinois.

Board Members present: Mr. Bame, Mr. Beavers, Mrs. Brasel, Mr. Green, Mr. Brown, Mrs. Eovaldi, Mr. Runge

Board Members absent: None

Administrators Present: Dr. Evers, Mr. Todd, Mrs. Finke, Mr. Hernan, Mr. Ellermeyer

Administrators Absent: Mrs. Sunny

Others present: Steve Carrington, Mrs. Bush, Carly Schimpf, Sherry Schimpf, Georgia Marshall, Emily Novara

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. Hines

Mr. Beavers made a motion and Mrs. Eovaldi gave the second to approve the agenda as presented.

A voiced vote was recorded as follows: Aye – All; Nay – None; Absent – None

The president declared the motion carried.

Mr. Beavers made a motion and Mr. Bame gave the second to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following items:

A voiced vote was recorded as follows: Aye – All; Nay – None; Absent – None

The president declared the motion carried.

Mrs. Eovaldi made a motion and Mr. Brown gave the second to approve the bills for March 2022 as presented.

A roll call vote was recorded as follows:

Mrs. Eovaldi – Aye      Mrs. Brasel – Aye         Mr. Runge - Aye

Mr. Brown – Aye         Mr. Green - Aye

Mr. Beavers – Aye      Mr. Bame - Aye

The president declared the motion carried.

Under Communications, Mrs. Eovaldi made a motion and Mr. Beavers gave the second to approve the resignation of Emma Bryant, MHS Cheerleading coach effective immediately.

A voiced vote was recorded as follows: Aye – All; Nay – None; Absent - None

The president declared the motion carried.

Mrs. Eovaldi made a motion and Mrs. Brasel gave the second to approve the resignation of Samantha Holcomb, MHS Science, at the conclusion of the 2021-2022 school year.

A voiced vote was recorded as follows: Aye- All; Nay – None; Absent - None

The president declared the motion carried.

Mr. Brown made a motion and Mr. Beavers gave the second to approve Kelly Phillips’ intent to retire at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 school year.

A voiced vote was recorded as follows: Aye- All; Nay – None; Absent - None

The president declared the motion carried.

Mrs. Eovaldi made a motion and Mr. Bame gave the second to approve the resignation of Jeff Weaver-White and Amanda Morris, MHS NHS effective immediately.

There were no comments made under recognition of audience

Under Old Business Mr. Green made a motion and Mr. Brown gave the second to approve SRA McGraw Hill as the K-5 special education math curriculum as presented.

A roll call vote was recorded as follows:

Mr. Brown – Aye         Mrs. Eovaldi - Aye

Mrs. Brasel – Aye       Mr. Beavers - Aye

The president declared the motion carried.

The 2022-2023 school calendar was presented and will stay on review until the May meeting.

Under New Business Mrs. Eovaldi made a motion and Mr. Beavers gave the second to approve the following as the concussion team along with one addition. (high school designee), Cody Ellermeyer, Heather Sunny, Andrea Geis, Ashley Ellis, Brett Sutphin, Dr. Blaise, Charlene Mileur, MHS counseling department, Athletico designee (Haley Landewee).

A voiced vote was recorded as follows: Aye – All; Nay – None; Absent – None

The president declared the motion carried.

Mr. Bame made a motion and Mrs. Brasel gave the second to wave registration fees for the 2022-2023 school year.

The president declared the motion carried.

Mr. Runge made a motion and Mrs. Eovaldi gave the second to offer 10-month non- certified staff the option of being paid on a 10-month pay schedule or a 12-month pay schedule as presented.

The president declared the motion carried.

Mr. Bame made a motion and Mr. Brown gave the second to approve an MOU with Illinois State University and Murphysboro CUSD 186 regarding tutoring services as presented.

A voiced vote was recorded as follows: Aye – All; Nay – None; Absent – None

Mr. Beavers made a motion and Mrs. Eovladi gave the second to move into closed session pursuant to Section 2 of the Open Meetings Act, 5 Illinois Compiled Statutes 120/2(C), to review:

1. The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the district including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity.

2. Collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees.

3. The placement of individual students in special education programs and other matter relating to individual students

The board moved into closed session at 6:25 p.m. The board returned to open session at 7:16 p.m.

Mrs. Eovaldi made a motion and Mrs. Brasel gave the second to approve the closed session minutes from the regular meeting dated February 15, 2022.

A voiced vote was recorded as follows: Aye – All; Nay – None; Absent – None

The president declared the motion carried.

Mrs. Eovaldi made a motion and Mrs. Brasel gave the second to uphold the Superintendent’s decision regarding an individual student matter as presented.

A roll call vote was recorded as follows:

Mrs. Eovaldi – Aye       Mr. Brown – Aye Mr. Runge - Aye

Mrs. Brasel – Aye         Mr. Bame - Aye

Mr. Green – Aye           Mr. Beavers – Aye

Mrs. Eovaldi made a motion and Mr. Green gave the second to approve the resolution authorizing the dismissal of Tri-County Sp. Ed. Joint Agreement probationary certified personnel as presented.

Mr. Brown made a motion and Mr. Bame gave the second to hire Donna Thomas and Cody Rogers as cooks, pending the completion of all necessary employment paperwork.

Mrs. Brasel made a motion and Mrs. Eovaldi gave the second to approve to post for an MMS Jr. Dazzler Coach and MHS NHS sponsor.
