The Southern Illinois Men's Golf program has announced the signing of Michael Mikus for the 2025-26 season. Head Coach Justin Fetcho expressed enthusiasm about Mikus joining the team, stating, "We are so thrilled to add Michael to our Saluki family." He highlighted Mikus's extensive experience, describing him as "one of the most experienced golfers to step foot into our program."

Mikus, who hails from Costa Rica, is set to compete with the Salukis starting next fall. He holds a position within the Top 500 World Amateur Golf Rankings and is ranked as the number two amateur golfer in Costa Rica. His addition brings significant experience to the team.

Mikus's career highlights include victories in two Latin America Championships, which offer winners an invitation to The Masters. He has also competed in two U.S. Junior Championships and two Junior Players Championships at TPC Sawgrass. Additionally, he participated in The Amateur Championship and contributed to the Costa Rica National Team's victory at the 2023 Central America Golf Championship. In 2023 and 2024, he was crowned Junior National Champion of the Costa Rican Tour and won the Individual Central America Championship in 2024.

Coach Fetcho praised Mikus's attitude and work ethic: "Michael brings the attitude and work ethic that we look for in potential team members for our program." He noted that Mikus is eager to compete at a high level and willing to put in the necessary effort. After interacting with Mikus and his family, Fetcho concluded that he would be a great fit for their program.
