CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois linebacker Ben Bogle has been named the Stats Perform FCS and Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week following a standout performance.
Bogle, a sophomore from Ponte Vedra, Fla., recorded a career-high 12 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, leading SIU to a 31-17 victory over Austin Peay on Saturday.
Southern's defense was particularly effective in the fourth quarter, limiting the Governors to minus-eight total yards. Bogle played a crucial role in this defensive effort, making key tackles that forced turnovers on downs and contributing 2.5 sacks in the final quarter.
Bogle's 6.5 tackles for loss set a new single-game school record. The team collectively achieved nine sacks during the game.
This recognition makes Bogle the eighth player in Southern Illinois history to receive national Player of the Week honors and the first since safety PJ Jules earned the accolade in 2023.
