How much has Carbondale ESD 95 overspent over the past 10 years?

Carbondale Elementary School District 95 accumulated $1.70 million in debt between fiscal years 2008 and 2017, according to a Carbondale Reporter analysis of public schools data.

Spending and revenue data obtained for this analysis comes from the Illinois Local Education Agency Retrieval Network (ILEARN), which is part of the Illinois State Board of Education and collects data annually on school district financials.

Over the 10-year span, Carbondale ESD 95 reported 34 percent more revenue. At the same time, total spending went up 30.8 percent. The resulting deficit grew by 48.1 percent from 2008 to 2017.
