The Southern Illinois University-Carbondale Morris Library Special Collections Research Center recently announced the completion of the Remembering Delyte Morris digital collection.
The collection highlights in-depth interviews documenting the Southern Illinois University presidential tenure of Delyte W. Morris from 1948-1970. The interviews were researched and recorded by Betty Mitchell as part of her work for her 1988 book Delyte Morris of SIU.
Interviewees often discussed more than Morris, as many spoke of their time at SIU, offering historical insight into the university’s growth, academic programs, Morris Library, Daily Egyptian student newspaper, Vocational Technical Institute, Breckenridge Job Corps Training Center, and the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville campus. The interviews are now a part of the Betty Mitchell Collection in University Archives.
