Southern Illinois University's women's basketball team will continue its road trip with a game against the University of Missouri Tigers on Tuesday. The matchup is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Missouri.
The Salukis currently hold a 1-1 record after their recent loss to Purdue Fort Wayne, where they were defeated 85-60. Alayna Kraus led Southern Illinois with 20 points in that game, marking another strong performance in her first season with the team. Kayla Cooper contributed 15 points, while Tkiyah Nelson added 10 points along with six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Kraus, a sophomore transfer from Oral Roberts, has averaged 18 points per game over her first two games as a Saluki. She scored 16 points in the team's season-opening win over Lewis and followed up with her 20-point effort against Purdue Fort Wayne. Kraus also leads the team in total rebounds and minutes played per game so far this season.
Missouri enters the contest with a 3-1 record after starting the season with victories over Central Arkansas, Tulane, and Arkansas State before losing to Kansas by a score of 82-77 on Saturday.
Historically, Missouri holds an advantage over Southern Illinois in their matchups. The teams have played each other 14 times, with Missouri winning nine of those contests. Their last meeting was in 2020 when Missouri won at home by a score of 79-43. The Salukis have not beaten Missouri since their victory in Carbondale in 1987 and have not won at Columbia since 1981.
