Quel'Ron House, a sophomore transfer from Jacksonville State, has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after his performance in the Saluki men's basketball team's only game last week.
On Wednesday, November 12, House led Southern Illinois University (SIU) with 22 points and seven assists during an overtime loss to Nevada in Reno. He played 44 minutes in the 45-minute game and added four rebounds. The Salukis were defeated 86-81.
House is currently leading SIU in scoring with an average of 19.3 points per game. He has made 58.3 percent of his field goal attempts this season, including a 10-for-21 effort against Nevada, and is shooting 80 percent from the free-throw line.
Known as a true point guard, House generates many of his points by driving to the basket and creating opportunities for teammates. His primary offensive move is a floater in the lane.
"When I see someone step up, I know it's going up," House said.
After five consecutive road games, SIU will return to Carbondale on Saturday, November 29, to play Arkansas–Little Rock. Tickets are available at Saluk.is/4i3okOe.
"We're fighting to win. I hope fans pack the Banterra Center when we come back," House said.
