Murphysboro High School recently shared updates on athletic events and achievements for its students through a series of social media posts. The tweets included information about the upcoming girls varsity basketball schedule, recognition for boys soccer players, and encouragement for the cross country teams as they prepare for state competition.

On November 6, 2025, Murphysboro High School posted: "Printable 2025 - 2026 Varsity Girls Basketball Schedule https://t.co/RBHekMO1F0".

Shortly after, another tweet recognized student-athletes: "Congratulations to the Boys Soccer Red Devils named 2025-26 SIRR All-Conference https://t.co/yx0oVPhgBc".

On November 7, Murphysboro High School expressed support for its cross country teams with the message: "Good Luck to the Red Devils Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams as the head to Peoria for tomorrow's IHSA State Meet! Special Thanks to Murphysboro Fire & Police Departments for the escort! https://t.co/7jADslJwjp".

Murphysboro High School is part of Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186 in Jackson County, which also includes Carruthers Elementary School, General John A. Logan Attendance Centre, McElvain School, and Murphysboro Middle School. According to the Illinois State Board of Education, the district employs 147 teachers who earn an average salary of $53,770. Approximately three-quarters of these educators are women and none have more than ten absences per year. The student population is diverse: about 69 percent White, nearly 16 percent Black, just over seven percent Hispanic, and a small percentage Asian. In fiscal year 2020, district spending totaled $19,142 per student for an overall expenditure exceeding $37 million (source).
