Murphysboro HS thanks local Walmart manager and Boy Scout Troop #4 for football support

Murphysboro High School, part of the Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186 in Jackson County, expressed appreciation for local support in a series of social media posts on September 20, 2025.

In one post, the school acknowledged Bradley Padgett and a local retailer: "MHS Football Thanks Bradley Padgett, manager at our Murphysboro Walmart for supplying the teams with bottles of water to quench their thirst on the way back from away games. Thank you Murphysboro Walmart for your generous donation and keeping the boys hydrated." (September 20, 2025).

Another message highlighted community volunteerism: "MHS football would like to shout a HUGE thank you to our local Boy Scout Troop #4 for volunteering their time to keep the snacks and drinks coming last night at concessions! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!" (September 20, 2025).

Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186 includes several educational institutions such as Carruthers Elementary School and Murphysboro Middle School, serving Jackson County residents (source). The district is composed of approximately 147 teachers with an average salary of $53,770 according to state education data; most are women and none have more than ten absences annually (source). Demographically, about 69 percent of students identify as White, nearly 16 percent as Black, over seven percent as Hispanic, and a small fraction as Asian (source). In fiscal year 2020, spending per student was reported at $19,142 (source).
