Murphysboro HS recognizes athletes' achievements and volunteer support in September updates

Murphysboro High School highlighted student achievements and community support in a series of social media posts on September 16, 2025. The tweets featured recognition for cross country runners and appreciation for local volunteers.

In a post from the early morning, Murphysboro High School congratulated two athletes for their performance at Detweiler Park: "Jonathan Witzman & Hunter Douglas had a great day at Detweiler park Saturday! They finished 59th and 64th respectively out of 689 runners! Congratulations boys!!" (September 16, 2025).

Later that afternoon, the school expressed gratitude to volunteers: "We’d like to shout a Big thanks to the SIUC Student Alumni Association for helping with concessions this year. These volunteers help to keep those snacks & drinks coming!" (September 16, 2025). Another tweet was posted earlier that day containing only a link: "https://t.co/t85ivfr8M3" (September 16, 2025).

Murphysboro High School is part of Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186, which serves Jackson County and includes several schools such as Carruthers Elementary School and Murphysboro Middle School. The district employs approximately 147 teachers with an average salary of $53,770; nearly three-quarters are women. According to state data, there are no teachers in the district with more than ten absences per year. The student body is predominantly White at 69 percent, with Black students making up nearly 16 percent and Hispanic students just over seven percent.
