Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Jan. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of the Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 met at a regular Board meeting held on January 16, 2025 with the Closed Session beginning at 5:30 p.m. and Regular Session beginning at 6:05 p.m. at the Unit Office, 1113 Grand Avenue, Johnston City, IL. President Chris Cullum called the meeting to order and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

ROLL CALL

Present: Chad Barras, Jimmy Dean, Patti Martin, Randy McIntosh, John Van, and Chris Cullum

Absent: John Etherton

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by John Van to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following:

A. Approval of Regular and Closed Session Minutes of the 12/19/24 Regular Meeting

B. Approve Destruction of Closed Session tapes listed below in Accordance with 5 ILCS 120/2.6c 1/19/23, 2/23/23 (special meeting), 2/23/23, 3/23/23, 4/20/23, 5/18/23, and 6/29/23

C. Approval of Treasurer’s Report

D. Approval of Bills for Payment

Motion Carried.

Steve Sims, Architechniques Ltd., presented updates regarding the Jefferson School Project, the status for the Washington School Renovations, and the new Transportation Office. The Jefferson School Project has been slowed down due to the rain and the snow. They have also run into more bad soil. It is approximately 10 cubic feet of soil. Mr. Sims stated that the modifications to the Washington School Renovation Project have been sent to the mechanical and electrical engineers. He hopes to have the plans at the next meeting to go out for bid and to award bids at the March Board meeting. Mr. Sims stated that they are working on getting new pricing for the Transportation Office.

Mrs. Clark stated that the FSCS Grant can pay for between $85,000 and $90,000 from the grant for construction to cover.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that the District has been awarded the School Maintenance Grant for a new entrance at the Jefferson School Pre-K.

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Randy McIntosh to authorize the solicitation of bids for Jefferson School Asbestos Abatement to include alternate bids.

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by Randy McIntosh to approve the Vision 2030 Resolution as presented.

Ms. Ronda Koch presented an updated on the Full Service Community Schools Program.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that she received a FOIA request from Angel Tormis with SteepSteel, LLC and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Jimmy Dean to approve the medical leave of absence for Sierra Lee.

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by John Etherton to accept the resignation of Jaimi Kerley as the Middle School Cheerleading Coach effective at the end of the 2024- 2025 basketball season, to approve Rebekah Beckham as a Volunteer Assistant Middle School Dance Coach, and to post the Middle School Cheerleading Coach position.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Van, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that Opaa! has hired a new Director of Nutritional Services for the District and they have also hired a new Operations Manager that oversees multiple districts.

The CNA pinning is scheduled for February 28, 2025 at 6:00 p.m.

The Arrowhead Classic Basketball Tournament is scheduled for January 20th- January 25th.

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by John Van to adjourn the meeting at 6:32 p.m.
