State Representative Paul Jacobs has expressed his opposition to House Bill 2827, which proposes new regulations on homeschooling in Illinois. According to Jacobs, the bill introduces burdensome requirements for families who opt for homeschooling, a system he believes is successful in education and college admissions.

"We have enough problems in our state that need addressing and the homeschooling families are not one of them," said Jacobs. He criticized efforts to regulate homeschooling, arguing it might push families towards public schools instead.

Jacobs referenced a report highlighting deficiencies in public schools' ability to teach basic reading and math skills as evidence against increased regulation of homeschoolers. "We need to be moving in the opposite direction of this bad legislation," he stated. "Reducing the number of mandates on teachers and schools should be our first priority, not attacking families."

He urged constituents to oppose HB 2827 by signing an online petition available at https://www.ilhousegop.org/jacobs_homeschool_petition.
