State Senator Terri Bryant has been recognized as a Champion of Free Enterprise by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce. This honor highlights her dedication to pro-growth legislation that aims to create a better environment for job creators in Illinois.

Senator Bryant emphasized the importance of small businesses to Illinois' economy and stressed the need for policies that support their growth. "When job creators succeed, they provide opportunity for Illinoisans, making it easier for families to thrive," she said.

Illinois Chamber President and CEO Lou Sandoval praised Senator Bryant's consistent support for business: “Senator Terri Bryant is a steadfast supporter of business who consistently looks for opportunities to grow the economy in her district,” he said. “She has been a staunch pro-growth ally for business in her almost 10 years in the House and Senate, and we are pleased to once again honor Senator Bryant for her efforts. We look forward to the continued work of Senator Bryant; all of the business community will be the better for it.”

Legislators with an average Illinois Chamber rating of 85% or higher over the last two General Assemblies were eligible for this award. The criteria reflect a commitment to advancing legislation that supports Illinois' business community.

In other news, concerns have grown following recent reports of exposure incidents at Illinois prisons. Reports indicate that mail sent to inmates may contain papers soaked with drugs or harmful substances. At Menard Correctional Center, preliminary tests showed paper samples tested positive for fentanyl and synthetic cannabinoids.

KFVS reported that multiple individuals from Shawnee Correctional Center received medical treatment recently, with hazmat crews present on September 20th and 25th. Senator Bryant called on the Department of Corrections to collaborate with legislators on safety protocols to prevent such exposures.

The Illinois Council on Women and Girls is now accepting applications for its second annual Illinois Girls Lead Program. This initiative offers girls in grades 5 through 12 opportunities to shadow women leaders in state government. Applications are due by October 20th via the State Board of Education’s application page.

Additionally, nominations are open until October 15th for the 2025 Those Who Excel & Teacher of the Year Awards by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). Awards recognize significant contributions made by educators, administrators, and school professionals across seven categories.

Changes have also been implemented in Illinois CDL testing as of September 1st. The updates include removing parallel parking from tests and streamlining basic control skills requirements. Drivers can now use checklists during pre-trip inspections, with test administrators allowed to prompt drivers during exams.

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, focusing on screening, education, and prevention efforts against a disease affecting over 300,000 women annually in the U.S., according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
