The Family Medicine Residency Decatur residents participated in the Decatur Public School Extended day Program with students from Decatur School District schools. The DPS program is a before and after-school program created to bridge the childcare gap for DPS families and support the District’s focus on providing intentional academic opportunities beyond the school day. DPS collaborated with DEA, Decatur Education Association and DFTA, Decatur Federation of Teaching Assistants to develop a program that supports district students and provides a childcare option for working families.

Residents are assigned schools based on participation in this program and visit once a month to help students with homework, mentoring, and other needs. Currently, 15 residents from Decatur are divided across four schools. To learn more about the DPS program please visit: https://www.dps61.org/extendedday
