Analysis: Carbondale administrators rank 732nd in state for average pay

Administrators in Carbondale Community High School District 165 earn an average of $83,943 per year, ranking 732nd out of 864 districts in Illinois, according to a Carbondale Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The 2020 average is 2.2 percent lower than in 2016 and 13.7 percent lower than in 2011. District administrators make 24.6 percent less than the state average of $111,293.

Administrator salaries depend on the district's size, location and resources, as well as the individual's level of experience and education, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

The Carbondale School District in Jackson County enrolled 988 students in 2019-2020. There is an average of 99 students for every administrator, compared to a statewide ratio of 171 to 1.
