Analysis: Marion administrators rank 332nd in state for average pay

Administrators in Marion Community Unit School District 2 earn an average of $107,252 per year, ranking 332nd out of 864 districts in Illinois, according to a Carbondale Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The 2020 average is 17.2 percent higher than in 2016 and 8.4 percent higher than in 2011. District administrators make 3.6 percent less than the state average of $111,293.

Administrator salaries depend on the district's size, location and resources, as well as the individual's level of experience and education, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

The Marion School District in Williamson County enrolled 3986 students in 2019-2020. There is an average of 268 students for every administrator, compared to a statewide ratio of 171 to 1.
