Spending per pupil at DeSoto Consolidated School District 86 was up 19.6 percent from five years ago, according to the Carbondale Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2019-20 report card showed the Jackson County school district spent $10,154 per pupil in 2015-16. It spent $12,142 in 2019-20.

The district's enrollment fell from 239 to 214 students over the same period.

DeSoto's spending in 2019-20 was 16.2 percent lower than the state average of $14,492.
