Carbondale Non-Bargaining Unit Employees Personnel Board recently issued the following announcement.

City Manager Gary Williams has named Deputy Chief Stan Reno as the Interim Chief of Police. Deputy Chief Reno will replace Chief of Police Jeff Grubbs, whose last day is today, September 30.

Deputy Chief Reno was born and raised in Carbondale and graduated from Carbondale Community High School. He began his tenure with the Carbondale Police Department in 1997 prior to graduating from SIU with a bachelor’s degree in Administration of Justice and Political Science.

Deputy Chief Reno has been with the department for over 23 years serving as Deputy Chief since 2013. He worked his way through the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant to deputy chief, and graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2011. He served as a patrol officer, detective, narcotics agent, special response team commander, and supervisor of the Street Crimes Unit before his promotion into the command staff. Deputy Chief Reno participated in the original Carbondale Study Circle groups and is still active with many Carbondale community groups.

Interim Chief Reno will lead the department while the City of Carbondale completes a national search for a permanent Chief, which is expected to begin after January 1. More details regarding the timeline and search process will be published in the coming weeks.
