Village of DeSoto Board of Trustees met June 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

President John Evans called the second regular monthly meeting of the De Soto Village Board of Trustees to order at 7:00 P.M via telephone conference. Village Clerk Paula Parks was present to record the minutes.

Police Chief Ben Doan, Director of Public Works David Griffin, Deputy Clerk Jana Fann and residents John Bowlin and Nicole Galloway were also present on the call.

Motion made by Paulette Johnson, seconded by Tony Rushing, to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting and to approve them. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Jennifer Morgan – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

Motion made by Eric Schuler, seconded by Tony Rushing, to approve the May revenue report. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Jennifer Morgan – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

Motion made by Jennifer Morgan, seconded by Paulette Johnson, to add a $3,050.00 payment to Intrado GroupCast as follows: $1,000.00 to Line Item 250-495, $1,000.00 to Line Item 200-495, $1,050 to Line Item 150-495, and to pay the list of bills as amended. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Jennifer Morgan – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

Trustee Tony Rushing reported that Travis Fred had submitted an estimate of $1,600.00- $2,000.00 for labor to finish the installation of the sidewalk between Kim and Pine Streets and to replace the section of concrete on front street. The Village will do the prep work and buy the concrete. Trustee Rushing estimated the total cost for both jobs to be $3,250.00. Wiggs Excavating had submitted an estimate of $3,850.00 just for replacing the concrete on front street.

Motion made by Cristy Desormeaux, seconded by Eric Schuler, to hire Travis Fred for the labor and to proceed with the sidewalk installation and replacement of the concrete on front street. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Jennifer Morgan – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

Nicole Galloway asked if the Village was planning to repair the roads from Lake Road on. She said they are mostly gravel and dusty, and they should be oiled and chipped. Director of Public Works David Griffin and Trustee Cristy Desormeaux will look at the streets and determine if these streets should be added to this year’s schedule for oil and chipping streets.

Mrs. Galloway also stated that the weeds on the lake by her house need to be cut. Police Chief Ben Doan will check into the matter.

Trustee Paulette Johnson presented an estimate from Terminex for termite control at the park.

The initial treatment would be $2,920 and a $438.00 per year renewal fee. Trustee Johnson felt the cost was high so she will get estimates from other companies.

Motion made by Eric Schuler, seconded by Tony Rushing, to purchase a dissolved oxygen checker for up to $900.00. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Jennifer Morgan – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

Motion made by Paulette Johnson, seconded by Eric Schuler, to reopen the rest of the park on June 26 and limit the groups at the pavilion to 50 and under. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Jennifer Morgan – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

President John Evans announced that the next board meeting will be held at the Village Hall.

Motion made by Jennifer Morgan, seconded by Eric Schuler, to approve the building permit for Warren Connor to add a porch at 305 E. Douglas Street. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Jennifer Morgan – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

The next village board meeting will be held Monday, July 6, 2020 at the village hall.

Motion made by Tony Rushing, seconded by Paulette Johnson, to adjourn at 8:07 PM. Motion carried.
