Murphysboro High School has posted a series of updates on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, sharing information and announcements relevant to the school community.

Murphysboro High School is part of the Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186, which serves Jackson County and includes several other schools such as Carruthers Elementary School, General John A. Logan Attendance Centre, McElvain School, and Murphysboro Middle School. According to the Illinois State Board of Education, the district employs 147 teachers with an average salary of $53,770 before pension contributions; approximately three-quarters are women. There have been no reported cases of teachers exceeding ten absences in a school year. The student population is composed of approximately 69 percent White students, nearly 16 percent Black students, just over seven percent Hispanic students, and a small percentage of Asian students.
