Carbondale Non-Bargaining Unit Employees Personnel Board recently issued the following announcement.
The Passion for Fashion Gala is excited to have award-winning musician Kevin Lucas as the featured entertainer at the Garden Grove Event Center on Saturday, April 27.
Kevin is from the southwest Chicago suburb of Palos Hills. In 5th grade, he began playing percussion, including the marimba and vibes. He earned a bachelor’s degree in percussion performance at Illinois State University. He also attended Southern Illinois University and earned his second bachelor’s degree in education, and a master’s degree in percussion performance.
Lucas was a concert hall performer and won both ISU and SIU concerto competitions where he performed as a soloist. He competed in the Music Teachers National Association at the college level in 1997 where he defeated national champions from China and Russia.
Throughout his musical career, the Kevin Lucas Orchestra has won several awards including the 18th Annual Billboard Magazine Songwriters Contest in 2011 and College Radio Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2008. The group was named Best Pop Act at the People’s Music Awards in London and Adult Contemporary Group of the Year by New Music Weekly magazine in 2009.
Lucas was a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2015. He won three silver medals in the Global Music Awards and had three songs become semi-finalists in the International Songwriting Competition. In 2016, he won a silver medal in the Global Music Awards, was a Global Peace Song Award Finalist, won the American Songwriting Awards in Adult Alternative category and had five songs place as finalists in the American Songwriting Awards.
