Carbondale Non-Bargaining Unit Employees Personnel Board recently issued the following announcement.
Open burning of refuse, landscape waste or any other combustible material is prohibited within the City of Carbondale.
However, recreational fires are permitted within city limits if they meet the following guidelines:
Intended for pleasure, religious ceremony, cooking or warmth
In the rear yard
No more than three feet in diameter and two feet in height
At least 25 feet from a structure or other combustible material; 15 feet if in an approved container
Method of extinguishment must be readily available (i.e. extinguisher, hose, buckets, etc.)
Must not be objectionable because of excessive smoke or odor
Constantly attended at all times
Note, the Fire Department may order extinguishment of open fires that create or add to a hazardous or objectionable situation.
