Village of DeSoto Board of Trustees met August 6.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

President John Evans called the first meeting of the DeSoto Village Board of Trustees to order at 7:00 p.m. Jana Fann was present to record the minutes in the absence of the Village Clerk Paula Parks.

Absent: Heath Rushing Eric Schuler

Motion made by Tony Rushing, seconded by Brian Gleason, to dispense with the reading of the minutes and to approve them. Motion carried.

Motion made by Paulette Johnson, seconded by Brian Gleason, to approve the July expense report. Motion carried.

Motion made by Brian Gleason, seconded by Tony Rushing, to pay the list of bills. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Brian Gleason – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes. Motion carried.

Alicia Flores would like the Village Board of Trustees to consider putting in a sidewalk where Douglas Street turns into Reed Station Road. The Village Board of Trustees will research the area and place this request on the next agenda.

Mark Sutton from J.T. Blankinship was present to discuss the cost of the Phase III water project with a total estimated cost of $595,000 including all labor, materials, and profits and to see if the board had any questions. The board discussed that they did want to move forward with the application, but if they did not receive the 75% debt forgiveness then they will have to re-evaluate funding the project.

Motion made by Tony Rushing, seconded by Paulette Johnson, to move forward with the application for the Phase III water main improvements on the west side of Chestnut Street for a cost of $595,000.00, conditional upon the 75% debt forgiveness. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Brian Gleason – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes. Motion carried.

Motion made by Tony Rushing, seconded by Brian Gleason, to approve Resolution 2018-1 appropriating $45,000.00 of Motor Fuel Tax funds for maintaining the streets and highways to include oil and chipping the designated streets and sidewalk removal and replacement for the period January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Brian Gleason – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes. Motion carried. Resolution incorporated by reference.

Paulette said that there will be a DeSoto Daze meeting on Monday, August 13th at 7:00 pm.

Motion made by Brian Gleason, seconded by Tony Rushing, to approve the request from the De Soto Township Fire Department to collect for MDA at the 4-way intersection on Saturday, August 11th. Motion carried.

Motion made by Cristy Desormeaux, seconded by Tony Rushing, to pass ordinance 2018-7 authorizing and ascertaining prevailing wages for laborers, workmen and mechanics employed on Public Works. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Brian Gleason – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes. Motion carried. Ordinance incorporated by reference.

Superintendent, David Griffin reported the following:

Phase II water project has been completed.

47 water meters were replaced in July.

Tony Rushing said that he will speak with Absolute Plumbing, Brett Grasher, regarding the repairs to the sink hole located at the corner of 500 North Hickory Street.

The next regular board meeting will be held Monday, August 20, 2018 at 7:00 pm.

Motion made by Tony Rushing, seconded by Brian Gleason, to adjourn at 7:40 pm. Motion carried.
