Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

On Tuesday, August 28, 6:00pm at the Dayemi Community Center, the Dayemi Family Center will present “Could It Be Dyslexia? Ask the Expert.” This is an open Q&A forum for parents, teachers, and students to explore the warning signs of dyslexia, find resources for evaluation and testing, and to find local professionals who can help with learning struggles. Damaris Miltenberger, retired Speech Language Pathologist and owner of The Language and Learning Center, will be answering questions and offering insights from her 30+ years of experience of working with children with learning struggles.

Conservatively, 10% of the population struggles with some form of dyslexia. Illinois schools are considerably underfunded and unable to provide the focused, one on one attention required for kids with dyslexia. In the southern illinois region, it can be a struggle just to find reliable information about learning differences and where to go for help. Please join us for an evening of candid discussion, an open forum with a local expert and learn about next steps you can take as a teacher, parent or student who has questions about learning differences.

The Dayemi Family Center is located at 214 East Jackson Street in Carbondale, Illinois
