Village of DeSoto Board of Trustees met Feb. 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

President John Evans called the second regular meeting of the DeSoto Village Board of Trustees to order at 7:00 P.M. In the absence of the Village Clerk, Jana Fann, Board Secretary, was present to record the minutes.

Present: Tony Rushing Brian Gleason

Paulette Johnson John Evans

Absent: Heath Rushing Eric Schuler

Motion made by Tony Rushing, seconded by Brian Gleason, to dispense with the reading of the minutes and to approve them. Motion carried.

Motion made by Tony Rushing, seconded by Paulette Johnson, to approve the January revenue report. Motion carried.

Motion made by Tony Rushing, seconded by Brian Gleason, to pay the list of bills. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Brian Gleason – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes. Motion carried.

Clearwave did not show with application for a utility permit.

John Evans said that the attorney has proceeded with the letter to Maria E. Tehandon regarding the request to sign over the property located at 215 North Walnut Street. The total cost of back taxes are $1,633.25.

Brian Gleason said that Chief Doan went to Naloxone Training for Law Enforcement and received free bleeding control tourniquet packs for each of the squad cars. Once paperwork is completed, the police department will be able to purchase the Narcan for each of the squad cars at a discounted rate.

Paulette Johnson said that Danny Vancil built a shovel for the sand pit in the playground area.

Paulette Johnson said that the park house was in much need of repair. The repairs will begin in the dining area. Before the repairs begin, Jana Fann will call Terminix and have a termite inspection done.

Motion by Paulette Johnson, seconded by Tony Rushing, to use park funds to build an 80 ft by 160 ft paws playground at the city park behind the basketball goals. Terrace Fencing will construct a 6 ft fence around the area. Total cost of materials will be $4,928.00 to be paid from park funds. Labor cost will be paid with the donation made by Brian Johnson Memorial Fund to the city park totaling $1,950.00. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Brian Gleason – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes. Motion carried.

David Griffin said that he checked on the cost of salt with Jackson County Highway Department for the snow season is $70.00 a ton.

The budget meeting will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.

The next board meeting will be held Monday, March 5, 2018 at 7:00 P.M.

Motion made by Tony Rushing, seconded by Brian Gleason, to adjourn at 7:40 P.M.
