Southern Illinois University alumnus John Pollitz has returned to the university's Carbondale campus as the dean of library affairs.
“I am very excited to be coming ‘home,’” Pollitz told SIU Carbondale News recently. “SIU means so much to me and I am very happy to be able to give something back.”
Pollitz graduated from SIU Carbondale in 1975 with a bachelor’s in history and education. He has worked as a librarian specializing in public services and technology at Oregon State University and a director at two university library systems.
After receiving a master’s in library science from the University of Iowa, Pollitz did additional post-graduate work at the University of Denver, obtaining a second master’s in history.
Pollitz commented positively on the spirit he found permeating the campus.
He said that he was “impressed by the energy of everyone in the library and their commitment to SIU,” according to the campus publication.
“I am thrilled to be able to represent those people to the campus and the community,” he said.
