A written exam and physical fitness test will be a part of the application process for entry-level police officers hoping to join the Carbondale Police Department. Open testing will begin at 8 a.m., Friday, Oct. 28, at the Carbondale Civic Center, 200 S. Illinois Ave. The physical fitness portion of the test will be held at 1 p.m. at the Carbondale Police Department, 501 S. Washington St. Applicants who arrive late will not be permitted to take the exams.
Applications can be downloaded from carbondalepolice.com by clicking the recruiting tab or picking one up at the Carbondale Civic Center. All applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24.
To apply, you must be at least 21 years old (20 with some restrictions), a U.S. citizen and hold an associate's degree or 60 semester hours. Carbondale Police Department applicants also must have a valid driver’s license, no visible tattoos and no record of felony offenses or serious misdemeanor offenses. Police experience or completion of police academy training may be used as a substitute for education.
