Village of Yates City Committee Board met Aug. 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

1. Call to Order 

Present: Dave Mahr, Ron Smith, Seth Lekies, Vonda Brinker, Mark Hostetler 

Also Present: Joy Mahr, Neely Carr 

Absent: Matt Ehens, Tom Kinzer 

2. Discuss Purchase of UTV for Water Department 

Hostetler discussed the bids he received from the Public Works employees. A bid from Slates in Canton for  Polaris Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar Premium was $27,400.00. Another for a Polaris Ranger SP 570 NorthStar  was $18,800.00. Eric Windish provided a bid for a Can-Am from Birkey’s in Galesburg in the amount of  $12,250.00. West Central Powersports had a Massimo T-Boss 560 for $12,250.00. Narrowing down  features to have a better comparison was discussed as well as engine size. Lekies asked to have time to  reach out to his connections and see what bids he could get for something similar. He will bring information  to the next board meeting on August 13, 2025.  

3. Discuss Concrete Pad at South Lot 

Hostetler discussed a concrete pad at the south lot that was discussed last Fall and was tabled till this  Spring. The size was 30’ x 25’ x 8” with 4” pea gravel and barricades surrounding buried 12” deep. Tri-City  Masonry LLC gave a bid for $7,000.00. Discussion led to the Board wanting a new bid due to price  increases. Hostetler will reach out to Tri-City and have more information next week for the Board meeting. 

4. Update on Well/Reservoir Project 

Hostetler reported Neil had not returned his call yet, the official pump still needs placed and pumped at  120gpm which will go down the sewer. Rock needs removed from the site. Bids for the reservoir project open in October. 

5. Discuss Hiring Seasonal Public Works Employee 

Neely has posted an ad in the Weekly Post, on the website, and on Facebook. Two resumes have been received. Hostetler and Brian Efnor interviewed both applicants but are still looking.  

6. Discuss Alley behind 306 W. Maple  

Hostetler discussed the alleyway between W. Maple and Fulton streets. A resident in that block is interested  in planting trees and was wanting to know the correct distance from center of alley they could do so. They also had complaints of dirt bikes, mowing, and children being on his property close to the alleyway and if  the Village would be interested in vacating that alley. Hostetler provided pictures of the alley which shows a  shed and fence possibly being in the alleyway. There have also been white flags, placed by the resident,  where the center of the alley should be according to their measurements. The Board has invited the resident  to join the Board meeting on August 13, 2025 to discuss the matter.  

7. Discuss Purchase of New Office Chairs 

Joy Mahr shared information regarding the risk of the cylinders/hydraulics exploding and hurting users, with  some being killed. She shared information on new chairs that meet safety code, have a reinforced frame, and support up to 500lbs that are $170.00/chair. The Board would replace two chairs in the office, one in  Police office, two at Public Works, and one at the sewer plant. 

8. Discuss Disposal of Old Office Equipment 

Dave and Joy Mahr are going to WRC Recycle and offered to take the old office phone and computer tower.  The hard drive has been removed by Hostetler.  

9. Discuss Semi Parking within Village Limits 

Hostetler informed the Board that a resident who has a truck and trailer reached out for parking options. He is no longer allowed to park on the south side of railroad tracks. He was parking in front of My Place, which is  in the right-of-way and was informed by Police he could no longer due so. Hostetler informed him he could  reach out to Burgess & Sons or Gary Mannis for the school.
