City of Marion City Council met April 9.

Minutes of a Special City Council Meeting of the City Council of the City of Marion held in the Council Chambers at 4:30 P.M. Mayor Absher called the meeting to order at 4:34 P.M. The City Clerk called the roll, and the response was as follows:

PHYSICALLY PRESENT: COMMISSIONERS PATTON, BARWICK, AND WEBB AND MAYOR ABSHER.

ABSENT: COMMISSIONER STOECKLIN

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Absher led the Pledge of Allegiance.

PUBLIC COMMENTS

There were no public comments this afternoon.

NEW BUSINESS

Mayor Absher announced the purpose of this meeting is to let the public know the tentative FY2026 budget is available for inspection on the city's website cityofmarionil.gov. He explained the timing of this is due to the fact that the city had a bit of a challenge from a calendar standpoint. The law states the tentative budget must be on display for ten days before it is voted on and the notice of the hearing must be published in a newspaper within a certain amount of time. Unfortunately, that statutory requirement does not coincide with the number of days that many newspapers are publishing, and the city ran out of calendar days. He said ideally this should have been announced at the previous council meeting, but the tentative budget was not ready yet. He said it is statutorily required that the city hold a public hearing before the passage of the budget. He announced the public hearing will be held immediately prior to the next council meeting on April 28th at 5:00 P.M in the council chambers in City Hall at 350 Tower Square Plaza.

Commissioner Webb made a motion to adjourn the Regular Meeting. Commissioner Barwick seconded the motion.

ON ROLL CALL VOTE COMMISSIONERS PATTON, BARWICK, AND WEBB AND MAYOR ABSHER ALL VOTED YEA. COMMISSIONER STOECKLIN ABSENT.
