U.S. Representative Mike Bost announced the opening of the application process for the positions of U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal in the Southern District of Illinois. The district covers 38 counties from the Metro East region to the Illinois-Indiana line and all points south.

There are 94 federal districts in total, each with a U.S. Attorney appointed by the president. The role involves being the chief federal law enforcement officer in their district and participating in civil litigation where the United States is a party. The Southern District currently has branch offices located in Fairview Heights, Benton, and East St. Louis, with Acting U.S. Attorney Ali M. Summers serving at present.

Similarly, each federal district also has a U.S. Marshal appointed by the president to oversee enforcement of federal laws, security for court facilities and staff, apprehension of criminals, and custody of federal prisoners. The Southern District's courts are located in East St. Louis, Alton, Benton, and Cairo with David C. Davis as its current U.S. Marshal.

Qualified candidates interested in these roles should submit a resume, cover letter, and relevant casework or supporting materials to SouthernIllinoisSubmissions@mail.house.gov if they wish to be considered for these positions despite applications already being received.

Bost will carry out formal interviews over two weeks before recommending candidates to the White House for review. Once President Trump appoints nominees formally, they will undergo Senate confirmation.
