Southern Illinois University's first baseman, Cecil Lofton, has been recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the League office on Tuesday. This marks Lofton's first weekly accolade from The Valley and the second for the Salukis this season.
Lofton, who transferred as a senior from Bryan College, played a pivotal role in Southern Illinois' series victory over Tennessee Tech last weekend. Originally from Resaca, Georgia, he excelled with four extra-base hits during the series, including two home runs and two doubles. His performance resulted in a 1.077 slugging percentage. Across three games, Lofton maintained a .462 batting average with six base hits, six runs scored, and five RBIs.
The Salukis are scheduled to play at Arkansas State on Tuesday before hosting Bowling Green and Southern Indiana at Itchy Jones Stadium over the weekend.
