Southern Illinois University's track and field teams concluded their participation in the MVC Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center. The men's team secured fifth place with 65.5 points, while the women's team finished eighth with 36 points.

"The final day is an emotional roller coaster for me," said Richard Jones, director of track and field. "Highs and lows in particular events and battling for points. It is hard to pinpoint any particular athlete because a lot did well. Darrione Williams, Leah Thames, Teanna Bell, and Andre Jackson were some great standout athletes to me this weekend."

Andre Jackson II had a notable performance by winning the 400m race with a time of 46.60 seconds, placing him third in Saluki history for that event. He also achieved fourth place in the 200m dash with a time of 21.45 seconds.

Leah Thames earned two bronze medals: one in the 400m event with a personal best of 55.15 seconds, ranking her fifth in school history; and another in the 200m dash with a time of 24.12 seconds, tying her for second place in school history.

In relay events, Vashti Grey, Leah Thames, Trinity Cleaver, and Teanna Bell secured silver in the 4x400 relay race with a season's best time of 3:43.67 seconds. Darrione Williams joined Andre Jackson II, Xavier Preston, and James Gaiters to claim bronze in their relay event.

Darrione Williams also excelled individually by earning silver in the triple jump with a distance of 14.75 meters.

"Coming back in his secondary event and getting second in the triple jump is impressive," said jumps coach Jacob Brydson about Williams' performance.

Jadon Robertson completed the heptathlon finishing fourth overall with personal bests set during several events including pole vaulting and running.

"Gutsy closing for both of those guys," Brydson commented on Robertson's performance along with Dom Martin who finished sixth.

The Salukis will now transition into their outdoor season starting March 22 at Ole Miss Classic.
