Southern Illinois University athletics had a busy week with several teams in action across various sports. The men's basketball team wrapped up their regular season, while the women's basketball team continued to face challenges. Meanwhile, other sports such as baseball, softball, and swimming and diving also competed.

The men's basketball team concluded their regular season with a victory against Illinois State and a loss to Indiana State. "It is playoff time now for men's basketball," as they head to the State Farm MVC Tournament in St. Louis on March 6. They will face Indiana State again in their first matchup.

Women's basketball experienced two conference losses last week. Despite the defeats, Gift Uchenna set a new single-season rebounding record for Southern Illinois with her performance against Murray State.

In track and field, the MVC Indoor Championship began in Chicago, concluding on March 3.

The softball team participated in the San Marcos Classic before hosting their home opener at the Coach B Classic. Highlights included Anna Carder's home run against Central Arkansas and a walk-off win against Purdue led by Emma Austin's clutch hit.

Men's golf traveled to Nevada for the Lake Las Vegas Invitational, where Anthony De Schutter tied for 30th place. The team will compete next in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Baseball had an impressive week, winning all six games played. Cecil Lofton was recognized as MVC Player of the Week after his strong performances. The team looks forward to hosting Bellarmine this weekend.

The women's swim and dive team finished second at the MVC Championships in Iowa. Several athletes earned All-Conference honors, including Liseska Gallegos Gutierrez who was named Freshman Swimmer of the Year and Celia Pulido who was awarded Swimmer of the Year.

Finally, women's golf competes at the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate hosted by Samford on March 3-4.
