State Representative Dave Severin has voiced strong opposition to HB 2827, a bill introduced by three Democratic legislators aiming to impose new regulations on homeschooling families. Severin described the bill as "outrageous government overreach" and initiated a petition against it. He stated, "My immediate reaction to reading through the sweeping new regulations on homeschool families is this: NO." He emphasized that homeschooled children are generally well-prepared for college or the workforce due to their families' dedication.

Severin criticized the bill's assumption that homeschooling parents are neglectful, stating, "That is wrong." He urged fellow legislators to reject what he called an "outrageous overreach and expansion of government into the lives of homeschool families."

In addition to his stance on homeschooling, Severin participated in a walkout with other House Republicans from the Illinois House Chamber in response to resolutions they viewed as politically motivated against President Trump. Severin commented, "The Resolutions brought forward this week by House Democrats signal to me that they are more interested in playing political games."

Meanwhile, deliberations continue in the trial of Michael Madigan and Michael McClain. The jury has been discussing 23 counts against Madigan related to racketeering and corruption for over 44 hours.

On immigration issues, Illinois faces challenges due to policies conflicting with federal immigration laws. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has indicated actions may be taken against jurisdictions hindering immigration enforcement. State Representative Tony McCombie criticized Governor Pritzker's handling of the migrant crisis and called for hearings by the Immigration Committee.

Illinois also grapples with budget concerns amid an uncertain business climate. Programs for undocumented immigrants could cost $558 million this fiscal year according to reports from the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services.

ADM, a major employer in Illinois, reported weaker demand for biodiesel impacting its financial results. The firm remains focused on processing crops like soybeans into energy products despite these challenges.
