State Representative Dave Severin has voiced strong opposition to the proposed HB 2827, a bill introduced by three Democratic legislators aimed at increasing regulations on homeschooling in Illinois. Severin expressed his concerns through a public statement.

"My immediate reaction to reading through the sweeping new regulations on homeschool families is this: NO," said Severin. He argued that homeschooled children are generally well-prepared for future endeavors due to the dedication of their families. "This legislation wrongly presupposes that homeschool families are inherently abusive and neglectful of their children. That is wrong."

Severin criticized the bill's provisions, stating they impose unnecessary government control over families committed to providing safe and effective education outside of public schools. He suggested that efforts to reform education should focus on addressing issues within the Illinois State Board of Education and reducing unfunded mandates affecting public schools.

"I will be voting NO on this ridiculous overreaching homeschool regulation bill," Severin declared, urging his colleagues in both legislative chambers to reject what he sees as an excessive expansion of governmental authority into homeschooling.

The representative also launched a petition encouraging residents to oppose what he describes as an attack on parental rights by state authorities. The petition calls for support against intrusive mandates impacting educational choices made by families in Illinois.

The website hosting the petition emphasizes its state-sponsored nature, adhering to ethics regulations prohibiting campaign-related content.
