State Representative Dave Severin, a Republican from Benton, participated in a walkout with fellow House Republicans on Wednesday evening. This action took place during the introduction of several resolutions by House Democrats in the Illinois House Chamber. Severin referred to these resolutions as a "Trump Temper Tantrum." Although house resolutions are non-binding, they often reflect the views of the House of Representatives on various issues.

Severin stated, "The Resolutions brought forward this week by House Democrats signal to me that they are more interested in playing political games and throwing a fit over President Trump’s re-election than they are in solving the problems facing our citizens and working families." He further added, "I was not going to be a pawn in their game or a witness to their tantrum, so I joined my House Republican colleagues in walking out of the chamber and going straight to the media to call them out for their childish and unproductive behavior."

During a news conference held on the first floor of the State Capitol, State Representative John Cabello spoke on behalf of House Republicans. His remarks were made available through video coverage.
