The issue of gerrymandering in Illinois has taken center stage as a lawsuit challenges the legality of recent political maps drawn by Democrats. The plaintiffs argue that these maps were manipulated to such an extent that they have effectively silenced the voices of many residents across the state. In response, a lawsuit has been filed with the Illinois Supreme Court.

In addition to legal action, there is a push for legislative reform aimed at changing how congressional and legislative district maps are created. The proposed legislation seeks to remove the process from incumbent politicians and instead establish an independent commission responsible for drawing these maps.

Advocates for this change believe it is essential for voters to choose their elected officials, not vice versa. They encourage those who support fair mapmaking practices to sign a petition advocating for this cause.
