The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team faced a challenging game against Drake, resulting in a 93-66 defeat. The Bulldogs showcased a strong offensive performance, scoring over 20 points in each of the first three quarters and concluding with 18 points in the fourth.

Head coach Kelly Bond-White commented on Drake's disciplined approach: "When you watch a program like Drake, what they do is intentional and detailed," she said. "From the timing of their cuts to the way they seal in, to the intentionality of how they push the ball up the floor and run the floor every time."

Drake's success was largely due to their proficiency from beyond the arc, making 18 out of 42 attempts for a 42% success rate. Isabella Palmqvist led Southern Illinois with a career-high 20 points, while Mia Gaines also achieved a personal best with 13 points.

The game started with Drake taking an early lead, outscoring SIU 21-10 in the first quarter. Despite Southern Illinois improving offensively in subsequent quarters, they were unable to close the gap significantly. By halftime, Drake had extended their lead to 47-30.

In the third quarter, both teams reached their highest scoring outputs, but Drake maintained their advantage by converting free throws and field goals at higher percentages than SIU. The final quarter saw Drake secure their victory by adding another 18 points.

Southern Illinois struggled with shooting accuracy throughout the game, finishing with a field goal percentage of 35% and three-point shooting at 28%. They did perform well at free throws, achieving an 84% success rate. However, Drake dominated rebounds with a count of 48 compared to Southern's 33.

Gift Uchenna contributed significantly for SIU with ten points and nine rebounds alongside Tkiyah Nelson who also scored ten points.

The Salukis will next play against Illinois State on January 31st as they continue their season on the road.
