The Southern Illinois University (SIU) swimming and diving team is leading the A3 Performance Invitational after the second day of competition. The women's team has accumulated 732 points, while the men's team stands at 630 points.
Olivia Herron set a new program record in the women's 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:16.25. In the men's events, the relay team comprising Willem Huggins, Tiago Faleiros, Nico Lanuza, and Alex Santiago broke a Missouri Valley Conference record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:27.00. Henrique Pacheco also set a conference record in the men's 400-yard IM with a time of 3:54.67.
The standings after day two show SIU leading both categories, followed by Omaha and Bellarmine for both men and women.
In preliminary events, Brooklyn Anderson and Fernanda Sanchez secured top positions in the women's 400-yard IM to advance to the finals. Henrique Pacheco achieved first place on the men's side. The Saluki women dominated the podium in several events including sweeping positions in both preliminaries and finals for events like the 100-yard butterfly and breaststroke.
Susana Hernandez was notable in finishing second in preliminaries but claimed victory in finals for women's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.40. For men, Alex Santiago led his event along with teammates Tomas Peciar and Alex Cimera who finished second and third respectively.
Tiago Faleiros led preliminaries for men's breaststroke while Ali Robertson topped her event on the women's side alongside Olivia Herron and Madalyn Booker who filled out all podium spots.
Celia Pulido achieved an NCAA "B" standard during her win in women's backstroke preliminaries which she later repeated during finals where she was joined by Liseska Gallegos and Tia Jankovics on another podium sweep.
In diving competitions Farida Moussa placed second among women’s three-meter divers while Oliver Mebs earned top marks among men’s one-meter competitors.
The final day of competition will take place on Saturday, November 16th starting at 10 a.m., concluding with final races beginning at 4 p.m.
