The Southern Illinois men's swimming and diving team concluded the second day of the MAC Championship with notable achievements, setting two new MAC records and three program records. The Salukis are currently in third place with 229.5 points.
During the preliminary session, Alex Santiago broke the existing MAC, program, and pool record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 19.29 seconds. The previous MAC record was 19.57 seconds, set in 2009, while the former program and pool record was 19.60 seconds, established by Donat Csuvarszki in 2021.
Tomas Peciar tied for first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:27.27. Jack Khrypunov secured second place in the 200-yard IM with a finish of 1:45.48.
In the finals, Alex Santiago surpassed his own morning performance by clocking a time of 19.12 seconds in the A finals of the 50-yard freestyle, once again setting new MAC, program, and pool records.
Jack Khrypunov set a new school record in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:45.27, breaking his own previous record from 2021 of 1:46.50.
The relay team consisting of Jered Moore, Benedek Andor, Jack Khrypunov, and Alex Santiago set a new school and MAC record in the 400-yard medley relay with a finishing time of 3:07.51. The prior school and MAC record was set at 3:09.47 in 2023.
The Salukis will continue their participation on day three of the MAC Championship starting with preliminaries at 10:30 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m.
