Southern Illinois swim teams achieve mixed results against Missouri State

The Southern Illinois swimming and diving teams concluded the Dual in the Dale with mixed results. The women's team achieved a commanding victory over Missouri State, finishing with a score of 246-107. In contrast, the men's team fell short, ending with a score of 200-151 despite a late rally.

The women's team secured six first-place finishes on the second day of competition. They began with a win in the 200-yard medley relay by Celia Pulido, Olivia Herron, Bea Padron, and Susana Hernandez, clocking in at 1:41.99. Another victory came in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:27.06.

In individual events, Ale Hoyos Horvath took third place in the 1,000-yard freestyle. The team dominated the 100-yard backstroke with Pulido leading followed by Liseka Gallegos Gutierrez and Brooklyn Anderson. Herron won the 200-yard breaststroke while Madalyn Booker finished second.

Jasmine Rau placed second in the 100-yard butterfly at 57.43 seconds. Hernandez claimed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.25. The Salukis swept another podium in the 400-yard individual medley led by Anderson at 4:25.60, followed by Herron and Fernanda Sanchez.

The men's team achieved three first-place finishes. Alex Cimera, Tiago Faleiros, Alex Santiago, and Donut Csuvarszki won the 200-yard medley relay at 1:29.90 and also triumphed in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:01.25.

Santiago led individually by winning the 50-yard freestyle at 20.44 seconds. Joshua Aceves was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle while newcomer Will Huggins narrowly missed first place in the 100-yard backstroke by just milliseconds.

Henrique Pacheco earned second places in both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard individual medley events. In addition to Lanuza's and Benedek Andor's respective second and third places in the 100-yard butterfly.

In diving competitions, Oliver Mebs achieved an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 340.58 points on three-meter dives while Lee Haywood qualified on one-meter dives with a score of 319.80 points for top finishes among men divers; Farida Moussa topped women’s one-meter dives scoring at least as high as needed (250). Corrin Williams led women’s three-meters securing highest possible position via her performance too (224).
