As a part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Carbondale Reporter have sent a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the City Of Herrin.
Our request pertains specifically to residential and commercial building permits issued in the city from January 1, 2023, up until today's date. We are seeking detailed information about these permits including the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester details, address of the property concerned and contractor name.
Additionally, we have also requested for a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same fields as mentioned above are sought for these active permits as well.
Access to public records is essential for us at Carbondale Reporter to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization engaged in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver.
We will continue our efforts in disseminating information that promotes transparency and accountability in our local government.
