In our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Carbondale Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Carterville. The request, sent on October 30, 2024, seeks detailed information about residential and commercial building permits issued in the city from January 1, 2023, up until the present day.
Specifically, we have asked for a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued during this period. This includes details such as the type of permit, date it was issued, fee paid for the permit, requester's name and address, and contractor's name.
Additionally, we have requested a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same fields as mentioned above are also required for these active permits.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such records is essential for us. We believe that by obtaining this information under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140), we can further contribute towards our mission of comprehensive reporting.
We are awaiting a response from the City of Carterville regarding our request. We will continue to keep our readers updated on developments in this matter.
