A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Grand Tower in Illinois regarding unpaid parking violations on October 28, 2024. The request was made by the Carbondale Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability, we requested records of all unpaid parking violations under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The information sought includes the name of the offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date of violation, and total due.
As a media organization committed to disseminating important information to the public, we believe access to these public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency.
We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in gathering and reporting news to the public. We await a response from the City Of Grand Tower and will continue our efforts to provide accurate and comprehensive coverage on this matter.
