A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the City Of Herrin on October 28, 2024. The request, sent by us at Carbondale Reporter, sought comprehensive details about all unpaid parking violations in the city.
In our commitment to provide accurate and comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs, we asked for a list of all parking violations currently unpaid. This list should include the name of the offender, their address, the amount due, violation date, and total due.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We await the City Of Herrin's response and will continue our work towards promoting transparency and accountability in local government affairs.
