FOIA Request to Carbondale Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Carbondale Reporter have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.

The requested information pertains to sales tax collected from retailers from January 1, 204 till today's date. We are seeking detailed records that include the amount of sales tax collected from retailers by month compared to projected figures, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month, and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported for each month.

Access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We look forward to receiving this information in order to continue providing our readers with in-depth coverage of local governmental affairs.
