Southern Illinois volleyball team seeks to end losing streak in Chicagoland

Southern Illinois University's women's volleyball team is set to travel to Chicagoland for matches against Valparaiso and UIC this weekend. The team aims to break a four-game losing streak with these upcoming games.

The Salukis will face Valparaiso on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a match against UIC on Saturday at 5 p.m. Both games will have live stats available for fans.

Historically, Southern Illinois has struggled against Valparaiso, losing the last six encounters. Their most recent victory over the Beacons was on February 14, 2021. Against UIC, SIU holds a better record of 15-8 overall, but UIC has won two out of three matches since joining the Missouri Valley Conference. This includes their latest win in Carbondale on October 21, 2023.

Southern Illinois ranks third in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) for total blocks and blocks per set. Anna Jaworski stands third in school history with 3,467 assists. Larissa Seger ranks sixth in the MVC for hitting percentage and total blocks. Cecilia Bulmahn is fifth in digs within The Valley, while Eva Krakowski and Ema Stermenska also hold notable rankings in blocks per set and service aces respectively.

The Salukis have shown resilience in five-set matches with a record of 5-1, their only loss occurring at Lindenwood on September 14. They also hold the MVC record for aces in a three-set match this season.
